Cachar Police activates cyber cell, requests people to report objectionable posts
Since past few months, social media has emerged as a medium to propagate fake news, hate speech and rumours. Such posts get viral in no time and cause panic among the citizens. Deputy Commissioner S Lakshmanan, Cachar, in an interview to All India Radio had mentioned about formation of a cyber cell, which will monitor activities on social media.
Today, Cachar Police, on its official Facebook post released the email id and requested people to take screenshots of objectionable posts and forward it to cybercellcachar@gmail.com
The Facebook post by Cachar Police read: “To all people of CACHAR ,if anyone come across any objectionable speach ,post ,video ,comment and any other thing as such on social media platforms which might feel can attract communal harmony and tranquillity in the district and also incident of mob lynching in the name of child abductor.
Please do report the same to us ,by sharing screenshoots and send url to us( inbox ). Thanks, Team cachar police
Email-id: cybercellcachar@gmail.com.”
This comes aftermath of a tragic disastrous incident in Karbi Anglong where two musicians were lynched by a mob after social media viralised them as kidnappers.
This is indeed a great move by the administration for every now and then, fake posts emerge from nowhere as nightmares snatching people’s sleep.
