Cachar Police apprehends five Bajrang Dal members for assaulting a retired teacher; "Being forwarded to Judicial custody," SP

Taking prompt action against communal intolerance in Silchar, Cachar Police has apprehended five individuals who have assaulted the retired teacher in Trunk Road, Silchar last evening. It is worth mentioning that retired teacher, Rabijul Ali Barbhuiya a resident of Rongpur was assaulted by a group of miscreants in front of the Silchar Radio Station.

Police sources informed that based on CCTV footage, the investigating officers identified a few individuals involved in the alleged incident. The retired teacher’s car was vandalised and his beard was pulled off. He had lodged an FIR at Silchar Sadar Police Station and the Cachar Police started the investigation immediately after that.

It has been learned from sources that the Police nabbed the first individual at around 12:00 midnight and soon one after another was detained. A total of five individuals were detained. Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur confirmed that all five are affiliated to the Bajrang Dal and have been apprehended. “They are being forwarded to Judicial Custody,” said SP.

It is worth mentioning here that moments after the demonstration held by VHP and Bajrang Dal yesterday, reports of an assault surfaced from the heart of the town. At Trunk Road near Silchar Radio Station, a retired teacher and his family members were allegedly assaulted. His car was seen completely vandalised. When asked who did so, retired teacher Rabijul Ali Barbhuiya, a retired teacher from Arkatipur Government School replied, “There were about a hundred boys and some of them identified themselves as members of the Bajrang Dal.”

The resident of Rongpur, Silchar – Barbhuiya was travelling in his Alto Car to home from Ramnagar and as per his Police complaint, the miscreants pelted stones on his car. “They approached us and started saying there is no place for Bangal in India. In no time, they started pulling and tearing my beard. Shocked by their behaviour I could not figure out how to react. When they threw stones at our car, the woman and kid inside got hurt,” added the retired government official.
