Cachar Police Arrest 18th Quack Doctor, Seize Fake Medical Documents From Pailapool Residence

Continuing its crackdown on fake medical practitioners, Cachar Police on Wednesday night (November 5) arrested another quack doctor — marking the 18th such arrest in the district. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Lakhipur Police Station apprehended Sekhar Achari from his residence at Pailapool under the Lakhipur Co-District.

According to police, Achari had allegedly been treating patients from home without valid medical credentials. During the raid, officials seized several documents, medicines, medical instruments, and a certificate purportedly issued by the infamous Indian Council of Alternative Medicines, a body already under scrutiny for issuing fake degrees.

Speaking to the press on Thursday (November 6), Senior Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Partha Protim Das, said, “Cachar Police’s operation against quack doctors has been ongoing for months now. In this continued investigation, our Lakhipur team conducted a raid at Laboc Road, Pailapool, and arrested one person, Sekhar Achari. We recovered documents and a rubber stamp from his home. A case has been registered under Lakhipur PS Case No. 145/25 under sections 319(2), 316(2), 336(2), 125, and 271 of the BNS. The accused was produced in court today for custody.”

Preliminary investigation suggests that Achari had been practising illegally from his residence for over two decades. Police suspect he may have deceived numerous patients over the years, and further investigation is underway.
