Cachar Police Arrest 38 Thieves in District Wide Operation, Goods Recovered

In a massive crackdown on thefts, Cachar Police arrested 38 thieves, along with a large quantity of stolen goods, during late-night raids across the district on Monday, 28 July. Acting on several complaints of rising thefts, police conducted simultaneous operations in different parts of the town. They recovered stolen items, including bikes, gold ornaments, motors, utensils, electric wires, batteries, TVs, fans, and other household goods.

Speaking about the achievement, Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta said, “Residents of our district had met me recently and informed us that robbery has increased in the district. Accordingly, we launched an operation late at night on Monday. Five teams were deployed for different parts of the district. A list was prepared, and in one night, we held 38 thieves involved in various activities. Some are bike lifters, some steal electronic goods and others. We were also able to recover huge quantities of stolen items like pressure cooker, three bikes, batteries, TV, motor, fan, etc. Many among these thieves are drug addicts. We have sent them for medical examination.”

The arrested individuals, along with the recovered items, were brought to Silchar Sadar Police Station on Tuesday morning. After completing legal formalities and medical examinations, all 38 were produced before the court and later sent to jail as per the court’s order.

SSP Mahatta added that the crackdown on thefts and anti-social activities will continue. “Keeping our social responsibility in mind, Cachar police will persist with such operations to ensure public safety,” he said.

With Durga Puja less than a month away, this major success against theft has brought relief to the people of the district. Police expect that information extracted from the arrested individuals will help recover more stolen goods and nab other members of the theft network.
