Cachar Police arrests 3 after mother pleads before press: Birbal Singh Chetri murder case

The big impact of Barak Bulletin’s news. Chandranathpur resident Rita Singh Chetri claimed that the Borkhola OC was hesitant in helping her out. She alleged the Police officials did not help her in getting justice. She went on to say that OC Manmohan Raut misbehaved with her and even called her names.

According to Rita Singh Chetri, her son was murdered and she kept running from post to pillar pleading for justice. She said, she was asked by the OC to remain quiet and when she urged to see the FIR report, none was produced. Eventually, she said she had no other option but to open up in front of the media person.

22-year-old Birbal Singh Chetri’s mother is a widow and he was the sole breadwinner of the family of two. According to Rita Singh Chetri’s media statement, the OC told her that her son died due to excessive drinking. Based on the media statement given by Rita Singh Chetri, Barak Bulletin published report stating that the police so far could not even identify the alleged murderers in six months. This is the same Police formation that makes headlines and features in CM’s social wall for triumphs in combatting narcotics, however, when it comes to the poor and marginalized, the treatment seems to be different.

Following the publication of the news, Cachar Police confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection to the alleged murder of the 22-year-old. Manilal Kurmi (48), Sanjib Kurmi (22) and Himani Kurmi (19) are the three individuals arrested by the Police.

Rita Singh Chetri informed that she had lodged the complaint on August 10 at Borkhola Police Station. What comes as an astonishment is that the Police that could not identify the culprits in months, arrested them within hours of the publication of a few news reports. OC Borkhola was not available for comments.
