Cachar Police arrests Bangladeshi immigrant from Karimganj

Police arrested a Bangladeshi from Churaibari in south Assam’s Karimganj district on Friday morning.

The man Balbir Singh (40) hails from Sonatala in Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh.
According to sources in police, Balbir was apprehended around 8 am in the morning after he sneaked into Indian territory illegally via the border area. Some objectionable documents were also recovered from him, he said.

It was not clear why the man, who was later produced before a court in Karimganj and sent to judicial custody entered India illegally, he said.

It may be mentioned that a large number of people from Bangladesh had been apprehended in different areas of Patharkandi for sneaking or trying to sneak into Indian territory in the past eleven to twelve months.

A section of local residents have suspected that a racket involving people from both the sides of the border are involved in this. They also speculated the illegal activities to be a cause behind the upsurge of crimes like theft and dacoity in Karimganj district.
