Cachar Police arrests Burmese Supari syndicate's mastermind Abub Ahmed Mazumdar
Abub Ahmed Mazumdar a resident of Silchar’s Itkhola area has now been arrested. Known as the mastermind of the entire Burmese Supari Syndicate, Abub Mazumdar was absconding since the very beginning of the operation ‘all out’ launched by Cachar SP, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur.
Abub Mazumdar was a businessman before he joined the syndicate that transported areca nuts smuggled from Myanmar to India through Mizoram. He once owned a broom business but overnight, became a tycoon.
Cachar SP, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur confirmed that Abub Mazumdar has been arrested and now he is being interrogated at Dholai Police Station in Cachar district.
Abub Mazumdar has high profile connect in Mizoram secretariat and using his influence, he used to bypass the tax and custom’s duty cycle and illegally transport quintals of nuts. Abub Mazumdar has such high connects that he was spotted in high profile chief minister level meetings between CM Zoramthanga and CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sources close to Mazumdar informed that ministers in Mizoram attended his wedding on April 29, 2019.
While these nuts are locally known as Burmese Supari, most of these consignments are shipped from Indonesia making it a multinational scam worth several hundred crores.
Last month, Cachar SP, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur launched an operation that is popularly known as “All Out”. As a part of the operation, the Police officers have arrested Altaf Hussain, Zakir Talukdar, Zakir Hussain Laskar (Bagha), Nizam Uddin, Khalil Uddin and all of them were working under Abub Mazumdar. Raaj Saha, Kartik Paul, Dipankar Deb, Anjan Paul are also behind the bars.
