The Superintendent of Police, Cachar, IPS Ramandeep Kaur, confirming these arrests said, “Our operation started last evening and so far we have made three arrests. All of them are associated with the NNC. This operation started long ago and last January, a defective cadre of NNC was gunned down near the Manipur border, under Jirighat PS, due to some internal issues within the group. Yesterday we apprehended the main accused of this case along with two of his handlers”.

The main accused, Dinpatrei Riamei, was arrested by Silchar. He was here in Silchar for the last 10 days. Since the surveillance of the police was active, he could be nabbed last evening. Chandankhuan, 37 years of age and Namjaorei Ronhmai, 38 years are both from Jirighat, who were arrested along with Dinpatrei.

The SP further said, “In the same operation we have also found a 9mm pistol, which was used during the operation. We have caught two of the cadres from the Silchar area, who came here recently and were residing in a rented room. The third cadre was caught from Jirighat. We are keeping close surveillance in the areas of the arrest”.

The NNC dates back to the 1940s as a political organization of the Naga people. Since independence, they have been demanding autonomy of Nagaland. They have a demand for a separate flag of Nagaland along with a constitution and the creation of Nagalim.
