Cachar Police arrests vehicle thieves Shamim Ahmed, Wahid Ali, culprits make shocking revelations
The entire Barak Valley is hassled by the growing number of vehicle-lifting cases. Common people work their lungs out to buy their dream cars, the poor pay EMI without eating food to have their own auto-rickshaw and these thieves just live by stealing others’ car.
Yesterday Cachar Police managed to arrest two from the clan of many running a syndicate in Barak Valley. Identified as Wahid Ali, 28-year-old son of Jamir Ali, a resident of Cholamona village in Bazaricherra and Sobur Rahman’s son Shamim Ahmed of Harishchandra tea estate located in Baroigram, admitted that they are involved in stealing motor vehicles and have been doing this for a while.
Wahid Ali was trying to steal the battery from a car when locals spotted him. He was immediately confronted and beaten by the public before they handed him over to local police. The police officials then interrogated Ali and he gave away Shamim Ahmed’s name. Police then went to Shamin’s residence and arrested. Both were presented on the court where the judge decided to send him to police custody.
During interrogation, Ali and Shamim mentioned that their clan is spread across Barak Valley, Mizoram, Manipur and have representatives in Bangladesh too. They said that there are a couple of workshops in Barak Valley’s Cachar district where the stolen cars are modified and the chassis number is changed. They told the investigating officers that they have stolen seven cars, several auto-rickshaws, many batteries and other automobile parts from various places in Barak Valley. After stealing the car they drop it at a spot from where it is taken to the workshop and modified. After that, the modified car is smuggled to various parts of Northeast and sometimes to Bangladesh.
Police officials are considering this as a big success.
