Cachar Police confiscates fake notes worth Rs 1,21,000, apprehends 4 from Dholai, suspects international scam

In the wee hours of Monday, a team of Cachar Police under the leadership of OC Dholai, Manoj Pathak carried out raids in Bagha, Rajghat, Jamalpur areas in Dholai Legislative Assembly Constituency. The operation was carried out based on a secret tipoff that suggested that large transactions of fake currencies are scheduled.

One after another, the Police officials arrested four individuals alleged to be involved in printing and circulation of fake notes not just in Cachar but also in parts of Mizoram. The officials recovered one currency-printing machine and several fake 500-rupee note.

“We had a hunch that such activities are going on in the area. Our sources have been telling us about this. So, at around 3:00 am, we got the intel that a transaction is being carried out. Based on that we carried out the operation and confiscated a note-printing machine. We have also seized fake currencies worth Rs 1,21,000,” informed OC Manoj Pathak.

He added, “We have apprehended four individuals and they are being interrogated. Based on our interrogation, we will investigate the matter further. It is not possible that they don’t have leaders. The intel that we have is this is a big racket that is operating in the area and have international connections with Myanmar’s Burma. The fake notes flow from Cachar to Myanmar through Mizoram.”

Salem Uddin Laskar (35), a resident of Bongram area has been apprehended after Police found a note-printing machine from his house. The notes were recovered from the residence of Salim Uddin Choudhury (42) in Rajghat. He has also been detained. Riyaz Uddin Laskar (22) from Jamalpur and Hussain Ahmed (35) from Bongram have also been apprehended.
