Cachar Police Detain Two Suspected Rohingya Women In Katigorah
Illegal infiltration from Bangladesh into India continues despite border fencing and security measures. On Saturday (February 23) night, locals in West Katigorah’s Rajpur-Menam area detained two young women who had allegedly entered India illegally from Bangladesh.
According to sources, the women were spotted behaving suspiciously in an Alto car on the Rajpur Bagan-Digrakhal garden road. As locals stopped the vehicle, the driver and another person fled. Upon questioning, the two women claimed they had come from a Rohingya camp in Bangladesh. However, due to language barriers, they could only reveal their names, and the route of their entry into India remained unclear.
Police, led by Gumrah PIC in-charge Panchapallab Bora and female SI Maheshwari Das, arrived at the scene and took them into custody.
Authorities found only a few Bangladeshi medicines, including a strip of Joytrip 300, a medication for nausea and travel sickness, along with cosmetics and clothing in their possession. Further investigation is underway.
As of February 10, 305 infiltrators trying to enter India through borders in Assam were “pushed back” in the last 7 months alone.
