Cachar Police detains smuggler near Silchar's red-light area, confiscates suspected heroin

On the directives of the Assam State Government, the police are taking the campaign against illegal drugs on a serious note. Police have been arresting the traffickers after receiving information from secret sources almost every day. On Friday, a trafficker was caught by the police while selling drugs near the red-light area adjacent to the Premtala area in Silchar town. The detainees were identified as Tazel Hussain Choudhury, a resident of the Water Works Road, Madhurband area adjacent to Fatakbazar.

A total of 46 containers full of drugs were recovered from the detainees. The containers of drugs were recovered from a polythene packet. According to the Police, 7.13 grams of narcotic substances were seized after the raid. Although the police have arrested several local drug smugglers in different parts of the city, still the police have not been able to provide enough information to the public as to where they are coming from and which drug racket is working behind them. Recently, Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Saikia said that despite the fact that the police have a lot of information, the intel is not always made public because it hinders the investigation. The smugglers become aware and alert of the investigation.

After receiving intel from a secret source on Friday afternoon, TSI Neelam Nath of Sadar Police Station along with the riding team of the police started patroling near the red-light area adjacent to the Radhamadhab Road. Just around that time, Tazel Hussain Choudhury came to a shop to sell drugs. He was then caught immediately in possession of drugs. The police suspect that the seized drugs are heroin.

They said, “We think that the drugs that have been seized in Silchar city and the adjoining areas recently are heroin. In almost every area, small quantities of drugs are being seized. However, how and by whom the main ring is being sent is still under investigation. However, the operation to nab the drug traffickers has caused panic in the minds of many people. Maybe the police can locate the main drug ring while interrogating one of the detainees. But not only the police, common people too need to be aware of the campaign against the illegal drug.”
