Cachar Police nabs 2 ZUD extremists; seizes one Pistol, 3 lakh cash
Cachar Police managed hit a new high as it successfully nabbed a couple of ZUD extremists. Based on a tipoff, Cachar Police under the leadership of Additional SP Jagadish Das along with SDPO Lakhipur and Assam Rifles officials launched a search operation in Naim Dailung village located in Assam – Manipur border on February 25, 2020. After a successful raid, the police officials managed to nab one Zeliangrong United Front extremist.
“The intel turned out to be correct and the nabbed ZUF extremist has been identified as Paujujan Rongmei. We seized a gun from him along with other important documents,” informed Additional SP, Cachar – Jagadish Das.
The police officials interrogated Rongmei all night long and got to know that one more ZUF extremist is going to land on Silchar from Kolkata the next day. Yesterday, the police officials waited for the flight to land and the moment it did they nabbed the second militant in Silchar Kumbirgram Airport itself.
“While interrogation, Rongmei said that they had done some kidnapping in both Manipur and Cachar side of the border and his colleague has gone to Kolkata to collect the ransom amount. When the suspect arrived at the airport, we searched him and found Rs 3 lakh cash. He could not give any explanation about the source of the money. We got him to Silchar Sadar Police Station and during interrogation, he accepted that he is associated with ZUF and had gone to Kolkata to collect the ransom,” Das asserted.
The militant nabbed from Silchar Airport has been identified as Jirighat resident Rikhi Poujuan. The additional SP said that the ZUF cadres use Naim Dailung as a corridor to operate on either side of the border. He added that there is a possibility that there are more ZUF militants operating in this zone, “They don’t cause any violence in this zone, they just use it as a temporary hideout. However, the investigation is on and we will get to know more details about their base with time, ” Das concluded.
