Cachar Police Seize 30 Kilos of Marijuana from Auto-Rickshaw in Hmarkhawlien, Arrests One
30 kilos of marijuana have been seized by Cachar Police from an auto-rickshaw at Hmarkhawlien. The consignment of the narcotic substance was foiled by the police team from the auto in three packets and is believed to have been brought from Manipur. In the presence of two witnesses, following the process, the driver of the auto-rickshaw was apprehended for peddling the 30 kg consignment of ganja (marijuana).
At around 9:30 on Monday morning, this illegal substance peddling was foiled by a police team at Lakhipur’s Hmarkhawlien. Cachar Police statement read, “On the basis of reliable source an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number AS11DC5148 was intercepted at Hmarkhawlien under Lakhipur Police Station coming from Manipur and during thorough search 30kgs of ganja have been recovered and hence seized accordingly as per procedure”.
In this connection, the police team has apprehended Nekbar Hussain Laskar of the Jirighat area in Cachar district. Further investigation into this matter is ongoing.
The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, commonly referred to as the NDPS Act, is an Act of the Parliament of India that prohibits the production/manufacturing/cultivation, possession, sale, purchase, transport, storage, and/or consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance. The arrest has been made under the NDPS Act.
