Cachar Police seizes fake currency worth Rs 5.5 lakh arrests 2
In a breakthrough operation, Rangirkhari Police has managed to nab a racket peddling fake currency in the market.
The Police department in a press note informed, “In an operation conducted today, fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 5,50,000 have been seized and two persons arrested in the Nagatilla area of Silchar. Further investigations are on.”
Cachar SP, Bhanwar Lal Meena added that the department will investigate the matter further to reach the root of this racket.
The two arrested individuals are Jirighat’s Sarimul Haque and Masimpur’s Iqbal Hussain. Police sources have informed that they reacted on the basis of a secret tip-off.
The arrested individuals claimed that they are innocent and a Banskandi resident Rajib handed over the bag to them. “We had no clue what is inside the bag. Rajib handed it over to us as asked us to look after it for a while till he returns. Since we know him well, we decided to wait for him with the bag and meanwhile the Police arrested us. We have been framed,” said Iqbal Hussain.
Sources informed that all the seized currency happened to be Indian 500 rupee notes.
