Cachar Police seizes Yaba tablets worth 6 Crores, Three from Mizoram arrested in Special Ops
Acting on a tip-off, Cachar police conducted a special operation along the Assam-Mizoram border at Saptagram under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station in the evening hours of June 13. The operation led to the apprehension of three individuals and the seizure of a large quantity of narcotic substance worth 6 crore rupees in the international black market.
In the operation held on Thursday, 21,000 Yaba tablets were found in the possession of three people. The arrested individuals have been identified as Lalrinnghets Mizo (45), and Isaka Mizo (35), both from Vairengte in Mizoram; and Beny Saitual (36) from Saitual, Mizoram.
During the search, the police team recovered 21,000 Yaba tablets from their possession. The estimated value of the seized contraband in the black market is approximately ₹6 crore. The consignment is suspected to have been illegally transported from Chaiphai in the neighbouring state of Mizoram. A scooty was also seized from their possession being used for smuggling the tablets. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta in a press briefing this evening said, “We have found from a preliminary investigation that the drugs came from Mizoram and were originally destined to be travelled to another state out of Assam. The route goes through Cachar”.
Yaba tablets, a banned narcotic substance, have been increasingly trafficked in the region, posing significant challenges to law enforcement agencies. The successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Cachar police to curb drug trafficking along the Assam-Mizoram border.
SP Cachar said the investigation is ongoing to nab the other three people associated with these tablet smugglers. This is an ongoing effort of the Cachar Police to make the district free from drug abuse and smuggling.
