
Cachar Police team confiscates 2000 bottles of intoxicating cough syrup, “one apprehended under NDPS” says Dy SP
Cachar Police’s “War on Drugs” is on and in this operation against drug abuse in the district, a police team was successful in confiscating around two thousand bottles of cough syrup from the possession of a Cachar resident. This operation was held last night in the Larsingpar area of Borkhola. One person was also apprehended in this connection, who is the alleged dealer of drugs in the area.
Based on a confidential tip-off, this operation was launched by the police last evening. After a search operation in the residence of the alleged smuggler, the police found 22 sealed cartoons of cough syrup, usually taken as intoxication. Cachar Deputy Superintendent of Police, APS Kalyan Kumar Das present on the spot said, “We had our secret intel about the possession of drugs from our sources. Accordingly, we launched this operation last night and were successful in getting hold of the drugs. There were 22 cartoons each having around 100 to 120 bottles of cough syrup which falls under the NDPS category”.
The APS officer further said, “We have apprehended one person, Nabendu Malakar who was in possession of this huge quantity of the drug and was selling them since sometime here. The investigation is on in this matter and we are looking into other connections in this. The search is on and there are some other places from where we might recover more such cartoons”. The market value of this consignment is estimated to be in lakhs.
The person apprehended runs a shop in the locality and he kept these cartoons at his residence saying these were goods for the shop, to his wife and family. The charge with which he was apprehended is an Act of the Parliament of India. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 prohibits a person from the production/manufacturing/cultivation, possession, sale, purchasing, transport, storage, and/or consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substances.
