Cachar sets new record by inoculating 57,189 doses; DC Keerthi Jalli lauds Health team, thanks CM for stock

On Prime Minister of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi’s 71st birth anniversary, India creates world record by insulating 2,26,16,355 (still counting) doses of vaccines. As the rest of the country, the drive was conducted in Assam as well. A total of 7,29,734 individuals were given a jab (till 10:30 pm as per Cowin) in the state.

Yesterday, it was announced that a target of 50,000 was set for Cachar. As it turns out, Cachar not only met the target but leapfrogged with 57,189 jabs. While the data is still tabulated, according to Cowin Dashboard, Cachar holds the second position in Assam in terms of the number of doses inoculated today. Nagaon leads the tally with 58,064 doses. 45,102 jabs in Barpeta, 18,511 doses in Dibrugarh, 36,387 in Kamrup Metro remains far behind Cachar.

“Crossing the 50,000 mark is a major milestone. 27,000 was the record set by us. It is amazing how the health team stepped up to achieve this feat. Based on our astounding performance during the previous drive conducted on June 16, 17, 18 we were given a cumulative target of 50,000. Despite the rain working as an obstacle and shortage in resources, it is amazing how the officials took the challenge on their head and achieved the target,” says Keerthi Jalli, deputy commissioner of Cachar.

She is of the view that these high number of doses will come in handy during the upcoming festive season. “First of all, I would like to thank the honourable CM for allocating us the stock of vaccines. Then all the seniors who guided us throughout the drive. But all credit goes to the Health Department – ably led by the ADC, joint director, DPM, all the doctors, nurses, Usha workers and everyone else associated with the drive,” asserted the deputy commissioner.

Most beneficiaries today got their second dose of the vaccine. This is ought to take the district a step ahead towards developing herd immunity. With third-wave looming over like a cloud of uncertainty, this drive is definitely a step in the right direction. However, it leaves a question. If the team is capable of insulating above 50,000 doses a day, what explains the inoculations of only a few hundreds on other days. Whatever the answer might be, the job done by the healthcare workers today, will forever remain as a historical achievement unless they break it again to set a new record of most number of doses inoculated in a day in Cachar.
