Cachar SP rubbishes reports on illegal coal transport in Barak Valley
Cachar superintendent of police Rakesh Roushan, on Tuesday, dismissed recent media reports on ongoing illegal coal transport in Barak Valley and claimed that the news was “baseless”.
Complaints on illegal coal transport from Meghalaya to Barak Valley have surfaced from various quarters from time to time over the past many months.
There have also been some reports in few local dailies on illegal entry of coal-laden trucks in Barak Valley via Digarkhal in Cachar district.
Roushan told reporters on Tuesday that police have been checking the vehicles, which are entering the valley with coal and it has been found that all the vehicles have valid documents including challan, GST documents and others, he said.
“The documents’ copies have been sent to the sales tax department for scrutiny. Stern action will be taken if anything amiss is found,” he said.
It has been found during inquiry that coal is being brought from Mariani in Jorhat district and Margherita in Tinsukia district, mainly for use in different local places of the valley. A tight vigil is being maintained to prevent any illegal entry of vehicles, he added.
