Kajal Das, originally from Lanka, served as a teacher at an LP School in the Katigorah area. He resided in a rented house in Kalain. Having spent his vacation in Lanka, he was returning by train to Badarpur. From Badarpur, he took an auto to reach Kalain. Tragically, the accident happened on the way. The auto he was on collided with an illegally parked truck beside the National Highway in the Katirail area.
The collision left Kajal Das critically injured, necessitating immediate medical attention. Local residents rushed all the injured victims of the accident to Katigorah Model Hospital, where doctors, fearing the worst, transferred Kajal Das to Silchar Medical College & Hospital. Despite their efforts, Kajal Das couldn’t be saved and was declared dead upon arrival at the medical college.
One of his colleagues revealed that Kajal Das’s death was due to excessive blood loss caused by injuries sustained in the accident. Residents highlighted that many drivers tend to park their vehicles beside the National Highway, as if it’s an unofficial parking zone. On both sides of the busy National Highway, vehicles are often seen parked illegally day and night. Garage owners are also seen conducting repair works near the roadside, contributing to such unfortunate incidents.
The locals questioned the role of the administration for not addressing this longstanding issue. This habit of people illegally parking their vehicles beside the National Highway resulted in the death of a teacher. This accident could have been prevented if such illegal parking practices were not being followed. As per reports, both the driver and the truck have been seized by the authorities.
Meanwhile, in Silchar’s Kathal Point, a police constable lost his life this morning due to a collision between the constable’s scooter and another vehicle. The accident left the constable injured, and sadly, he couldn’t survive. This incident took place at around 7:30 am this morning.

Two deaths in one day, both due to road accidents. Such collisions on the road further highlight the importance of road safety and driving with caution. Illegal parking and overspeeding are some reasons that result in deadly accidents. However, apart from them, there are plenty of other practices that turn deadly on the road. The authority should work towards making the road safer for the public to use without losing their life.
