Cachar's positivity rate drops below 2%; lowest number of admissions, death in SMCH in a month
Cachar is showing signs of improvement as far as the COVID situation is concern. According to the vice-principal of the Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, as of June 17, “there are 148 active Corona cases in the hospital. 78 patients are in the ICU ward and 46 are in the Covid ward. 13 patients are in ventilation support whereas, 102 patients are in oxygen support.”
In the past 24 hours ending at 5:00 pm on June 17, 11 Covid patients were admitted to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and 34 patients were discharged from it. 15 patients have been given home isolation. Also in the past 24 hours, in the SMCH, one patient has died due to Covid. The deceased’s name is Sutapa Chanda, aged 38, lives in ward no. 4 of Hailakandi. She was admitted to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital on June 14 due to a Coronavirus infection and died on June 17 at 10:30 am.
In the Cachar district, a total of 236 people have tested Covid positive on June 17. 157 have tested positive on RAT whereas 79 have tested positive on RT-PCR. On June 17, 7,885 samples were tested using the Rapid Antigen Test kit which means Cachar’s positivity rate on RAT has dropped to 1.99% from over 4% on June 16
In the Karimganj district, 3,499 samples were tested, and out of them, 60 tested positive. There are currently, 1,049 active cases in the district. Similarly, in Hailakandi district, 44 individuals tested positive for COVID19 taking the total active cases to 657.
