Celebrating Tribal Contributions: Chandranathpur M.E. School Hosts Cultural Seminar

Chandranathpur M.E. School, recently recognised as a PM SHRI institution, hosted a vibrant seminar on the contributions of India’s tribal communities. The event is part of a ten-day celebration marking the birthday of Birsa Munda, a revered figure among the tribal Tea Garden community. Over 90% of the school’s students belong to the Tea Tribe community, which the school takes immense pride in.

The seminar featured cultural performances, including a Dimasa dance by students, Khasi dance, and Jhumur Nach, showcasing the rich heritage of India’s tribal communities. Headmaster Mousom Dutta delivered a heartfelt speech, emphasising the significance of tribal contributions to the country and highlighting the role of tribal communities in shaping the region’s history.

Introducing the event’s chief guest, the Principal of PM Shri Raja Govinda Chandra Memorial H.S. School, Borkhola, Jadavendra Deblaskar, Dutta spoke about the school’s recent PM SHRI title and its dedication to promoting cultural and educational excellence. Raja Govinda Chandra Memorial H.S. School, also a PM SHRI-recognised institution, is named after Raja Govinda Chandra, a Dimasa king of the Kachari Kingdom.

In his address, Jadavendra Deblaskar lauded the legacy of tribal communities, referencing their mentions in ancient Indian scriptures such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. He highlighted figures like Ghatotkach and credited tribals with contributions to Ayurveda and India’s cultural unity. He stressed the importance of preserving India’s tribal heritage and urged students to carry forward the legacy of unity and excellence. Deblaskar also praised Headmaster Dutta for his multifaceted contributions to journalism, literature, and cultural activities, which have greatly enriched the school and its community.

After the event, Headmaster Mousom Dutta addressed the media to respond to recent allegations of corporal punishment. Dutta denied the claims, asserting that they are part of a smear campaign by illegal liquor mafias, who are aggrieved by his efforts to combat illicit activities near the school.

He further claimed that students and their families were threatened and warned not to attend the seminar, but the threats proved futile as the event witnessed full participation.
