“Roza Moha Roza Hain Kya,” do you still remember that video where chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma got irked by Deputy Commissioner’s decision to halt traffic for the safe passage of his convoy. His point of argument was that no one is King or Emperor and so, no DC should hold the public at bay for safe passage of the convoy.

Cut to the extreme deluge of 2022. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is back in Silchar for the second time in 72 hours. He went to the Malini Beel area to survey the extreme deluge there and then his vehicular convoy started proceeding towards Rangirkhari from Circuit House.

Moments before that, the Police officials started vacating the road for safe passage of the Convoy. In Nazirpatty area, the vendors of New Market which is submerged, were selling essential goods, vegetables on both sides of the street. According to them, the Police started forcing them away.

“We have spent so much money to come here and help the people. If we the vendors of New market would not have come with vegetables and other household items, people of the city would have remained hungry. Despite all this, today we are being pushed away by the Police, our phones are being snatched and our items are being demolished,” said a vendor of New Market area.

Hundreds of broken eggs were lying in the middle of the road and the vendors were sloganeering, “DC Hai Hai, Cachar Police Hai Hai.”

The chaotic situation prevailed and the angry vendors continued to protest in Nazirpatty even after the Convoy left the area.
