
Chatra Divas Observed At Cachar College with Tributes to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma,
Cachar College, Silchar, observed Chatra Divas on Tuesday (March 31), marking the birth anniversary of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma. The observance follows the Assam Government’s directive to celebrate the day annually since 2023 to promote awareness among students about their role in building society and social capital.
The programme began with floral tributes to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, followed by an address from Principal Dr Apratim Nag, who highlighted the significance of Chatra Divas and elaborated on Brahma’s educational journey, achievements, and contributions to society.
Several faculty members spoke during the event, reflecting on Brahma’s impact on both Bodo society and the wider Assamese community. Dr Swadesh Ranjan Das, Head of the Department of Philosophy, emphasised Brahma’s commitment to righteousness and non-violence. Dr Nilam Basumatary, Head of the Department of Zoology, spoke about his humble beginnings in Dotoma, Kokrajhar, and his rise to become President of the All Bodo Students Union.
Raju Brahma, Associate Professor in the Department of English, underlined Brahma’s role in promoting education and reducing social malpractices within the Bodo community. Dr Nitu Debnath, IQAC Coordinator and Associate Professor of Zoology, highlighted his contribution in empowering youth and encouraging them to raise their voices for the greater good of the nation.
Bidintha Narzary, Assistant Professor in the Department of History, spoke about the challenges faced by Bodo youths and noted how Upendranath Brahma emerged as a guiding force during difficult times, inspiring young people to pursue their rights through democratic means.
The programme was attended by students, faculty members, and administrative staff. Organisers stated that the event aimed to inspire young minds and reinforce the importance of their role in nation-building. The event was conducted with the support of the IQAC office bearers, along with teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the college.
