He has worked as locum Doctor in United Kingdom, resident in the Department of Cardiology in Vijaya Heart Foundation, Vadapalani, Chennai. He has also worked as a consultant Physician in Venkateswara Hospital, Nandanam and was consultant Intervention Cardiologist (visiting) – Vijaya heart Foundation, Fortis Malar, Kauvery Hospitals, Billdoth.

Dr. Vignesh Thanikgaivasan have performed more than 2000 Coronary Angiograms, Peripheral Angiograms as a Single operator. He has performed several Percutaneous Coronary Angioplasties. Single vessel, Double Vessel, Multivessel Ostial Angioplasties as single operator.
