In an unexpected turn of events, the vigilant team led by the Chief Minister of Assam has recently targeted the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Cachar Division concerning a tree felling scandal in the Barail Range.

Back in 2018, a significant incident of tree felling rocked the Barail Range in the Cachar district. Approximately 11,000 valuable trees were unlawfully cut down, and a subsequent auction revealed a substantial discrepancy in the number of trees missing from the forest.

Responding to this alarming situation, a thorough investigation was initiated by the forestry department. Over time, the Chief Minister’s vigilant team joined forces, intensifying efforts to unravel the truth.

Today, a noteworthy raid took place at the DFO Office in Cachar. The vigilant team meticulously interrogated the individuals present during the extended session. It is crucial to highlight that, at the time of the scandal in 2018, Sunny Dey Choudhury held the position of DFO in Cachar.

The investigation aims to shed light on the events surrounding the large-scale tree felling, holding those responsible accountable for the environmental damage. As the diligent inquiry progresses, the community awaits justice and a resolution to this concerning chapter in Barail Range’s environmental history.
