All Assam Civic Body Worker Federation held a meeting today at Gandhi Bhavan Silchar. President of the federation Sunil Sharma in presence of other senior representatives of the federation announced that the municipality strike has been called off till April 30, 2018.

The strike was withdrawn yesterday but owing to the protest and demonstration against Ranjanpada Deb’s death, the strike continued in Barak Valley. Only after Sharma came from Guwahati to address the local union, the strike was halted today.

Sharma said that the federation has discussed the issues with Municipal minister in details and after his assurance, the federation decided to withdraw the strike till April 30. Among the various assurances few important ones are:

  • The State Government will sanction Rs 45 crore within next 15 days to clear a part of the pending salaries.
  • In the State Budget session a fund of Rs 50 crore will be sanctioned to clear the remaining salaries.

The federation has also appealed to the government to induct the Municipality employees as State Government employees and allow them the allowances and perks that other state government employees avail.

Sharma condemned the death of Ranjanpada Deb and blamed government authorities for the loss of his life. He also mentioned that the federation will ensure satisfactory compensation for Deb’s Family and will appeal to the state government to employ a family member.

If things are not sorted before April 30, the Federation will call for a strike once again and other trade unions of the country will also join in.

For now, things are back to normal till April 30.
