Class II student drowns in Hailakandi river

An 11-year-old boy reportedly drowned in Dhaleshwari river at Chiparsangan village in Hailakandi district on Tuesday.

Sources said the incident took place around 9am this morning, when the boy Tamim Iqbal Laskar slipped off a bamboo bridge, while crossing the river. A woman, who was present nearby saw Tamim falling in the river. She started screaming following which locals gathered and some of them jumped into the river to find him.

After failed attempts, the matter was eventually informed to the Algapur police. Receiving the information, Algapur police station’s officer in-charge Mahendra Bora reached the spot with SDRF and CRPF officials. A special SDRF team from Silchar was also called to rescue the boy. A search operation was initiated, but Tamim could not be found out, as per last available reports.

Tamim, a class-II student at A.K. Memorial Academy, is the son of Fariz Uddin.
