Clean and Green Village Mission: Programme held at Karimganj School
A programme was held at Garerbond M.V. School under Gandhinagar gaon panchayat in Karimganj district on Friday in connection with the Clean and Green Village Mission, an initiative of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal aimed at making Assam one of the cleanest states in India.
The mission was launched by Jadav Payeng, known as the forest man of India, at Torajan in Tinsukia district last year. Garerbond, which falls under Ratabari constituency, is one of the villages in the state where the mission will be implemented.
The programme, which was organised to get the views of the villages, was presided over by Ramakrishnanagar Sports Association’s president Mriganka Dutta Choudhury. Deep Jyoti Handique, director of MyGov, Assam was present as a guest from the state government.
ADC A.K. Brahma, who delivered the inaugural speech, urged the residents of Garerbond to extend their co-operation and help in keeping the village clean. He spoke on the importance of hygiene and cleanliness and urged one and all to raise awareness among the common masses.
Mour Sinha, a senior citizen of the village, said people lived for thousands of years during the time of Ramayana and Mahabharata as there was no pollution back then, but it has become tough for people to live for even hundred years now. Pollution of various kinds is the major reason behind this, he said.
He exhorted the masses to plant saplings and invigorate the planet Earth. “Greenery, plants are necessary to minimise the increasing pollution,” he said.
Anil Chandra Das, another resident, said Garerbond is a beautiful village and plantation is needed to improve its overall atmosphere. The condition of roads needs to be ameliorated and locals need to extend their helping hand in keeping the village clean and pollution-free, he said.
Among others, Dohalia forest range official Prabir Biswas, Gandhinagar GP president Ananta Kar, Tripti Nag and Joydeep Nag were present.
