CM Sonowal dodges questions on Syndicate Raj, Dilip Paul's resignation; Says will win all 7 in Cachar

To coincide with the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri, seven BJP candidates from the Cachar district submitted their nominations one by one on Wednesday. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was supposed to join them in the nomination process, but for various reasons, he arrived late in Silchar, and then appeared at the DSA ground at 3 pm. Accompanying each candidate, he conveyed a message to the people that, “Keeping in mind the BJP’s work for the last five years, may they help win candidates”.

Though he has revisited various work records in the last five years, he has not answered questions on allegations of corruption against various members of the party, MLA Dilip Kumar Paul’s resignation and the syndicate issue.

The Chief Minister said, “Assam is such a state where two rivers have become the progenitor of two valleys. During the tenure of our government, the distance between the people of the two valleys has decreased and friendship has increased. I have been saying since day one that Barak and Brahmaputra are equally dear to me. Before our government came, there was no railway service in Barak Valley, airfares were very high, the roads were underdeveloped as well as the healthcare. Also, there were many obstacles the citizens were facing that we were able to overcome. Ordinary people understand these words and they will give us a chance to work again. I brought this request to them today. ”

However, when the media people asked Sarbananda Sonowal about the recent resignation of Dilip Kumar Paul and his allegations about Syndicate Raj, the Chief Minister did not reply. He went on to thank the Prime Minister for his detailed visit and left. Before leaving, he said without naming anyone, “The BJP is an ideological party and we are all party workers. It is the duty of every dedicated worker in the election to do his best to make sure that the party’s candidates win. I believe every dedicated worker in the district who loves BJP will do it.”

On Wednesday, Silchar candidate Daipayan Chakraborty, Lakhipur candidate Kaushik Rai, Sonai candidate Aminul Haque Laskar, Dholai candidate Parimal Suklabaidya, Katigorah candidate Gautam Roy, Udharbond candidate Mihir Kanti Shome and Borkhola candidate Amalendu Das submitted nomination papers. All of them were accompanied by Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy.

Referring to Dilip Kumar Paul’s allegations, MP Rajdeep Roy said, “We are all loyal to the party. In the past, I too was snubbed by the party from getting a ticket but I did not revolt. If Dilip Babu had had so many complaints, he could have mentioned them earlier, now there is no point in saying all these things right before the election. He has lost his way somewhere in the middle, but I do hope he regains his senses and returns back.”

Dilip Kumar Paul had said that Parimal Suklabaidya is a good man but even after knowing everything he too was silent regarding it. When asked about this, Parimal Suklabaidya said, “The election is a huge battle and various tools will be used here. What is more important is why it is being said rather than who says what, where is the purpose of saying it, if you can understand those things, the words become clear. We are dedicated members of the party and believe in the ideals of the party. We have been contributing as a member to the party since 1991. “
