Coal Scam: Cachar Police arrests another Transport Dept. staff, Swapan Guha
Continuing the investigation against illegal transit of Coal through the Digarkhal gate, Cachar Police has arrested one more individual. An FIR was lodged stating that some trucks loaded with Coal have passed from Meghalaya to Assam through the Digarkhal gate. Based on the complaint, the Cachar Police started investigating the matter.
Enforcement Inspector, Bhaba Kalita and Coal Mafia Kari Taher Ahmed were already arrested by the Police. Today, Cachar Police has arrested Enforcement Checker, Swapan Guha. As per available information, Guha is one of the masterminds involved in the Coal smuggling Syndicate. He had absconded immediately after Police started investigating the matter. However, the officials traced him and summoned him.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Headquarters – Dr. Kalyan Kumar Das is investigating the case and he has interrogated Guha. After an overnight interrogation, Guha was arrested today afternoon.
Superintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur informed that the investigating officers collected enough evidence to suggest Guha’s involvement in the Coal Scam and that is why he has been arrested.
She added, “The matter is being investigated and so far, we have arrested three individuals. We will see if there are more people involved in this. There was a violation of Government’s SOP with regards to the transportation of vehicles to the state and that is what we are investigating.”
Sources suggest that the Block Development Officer is also involved in the Coal syndicate. However, the SP did not confirm or deny the officer’s involvement.
