Congress extends moral support to ACKSHA's Bandh tomorrow, BJP opposes
The Assam-Mizoram interstate border dispute is going on since October 17. The tension escalated to the extent that the Home Ministry has decided to deploy central forces.
Alleging that the Mizo miscreants have encroached into Assam’s territory and is torturing the people of Assam, All Assam Cachar Karimganj Students’ Association, (ACKHSA) has called for a 12-hour strike tomorrow.
Cachar district Congress has extended its support to the strike. “We will not get into picketing but will support the strike morally,” said Congress’ Abhijit Paul.
BJP’s Cachar president Kausik Rai added, “BJP opposes the strike as we do not find any merit is blocking roads in Cachar while the issue is in Mizoram.”
In Karimganj, the district BJP’s Subrata Bhattacharjee has said that there is no existence of ACKHSA. “We have not even heard about the bandh tomorrow. I don’t think ACKHSA has any presence in the district. I don’t think there will be any strike tomorrow.”
The government offices and Cachar administration will function as usual. “Government always has to run come rain or shine unless we receive instructions from above, which we have not for tomorrow,” said deputy commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli.
There is uncertainty among people in the district, but the government has urged the people of Barak Valley to open shops and go to offices as usual.
