Congress Is Now Muslim League, Alleges BJP National Spokesperson Prem Shukla In Silchar
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Prem Shukla on Monday (February 9) launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, alleging that the party has “turned into the Muslim League” and is indulging in divisive politics that threaten the unity of the country.
Addressing a press conference organised by the BJP Cachar unit in Silchar discussing the Union Budget, Shukla alleged an “international conspiracy” involving Congress leaders and Bangladesh’s Muhammad Yunus, claiming it was aimed at weakening India, particularly the Northeast.
“Congress isn’t Congress anymore. It has become the Muslim League now,” Shukla said, adding that the actions and statements of Congress leaders were “not even acceptable to Indian Muslims”. He further alleged that the remarks made by Rahul Gandhi were consistently against the national interest.
With Assembly elections approaching in Assam, Shukla also referred to recent political controversies surrounding Gaurav Gogoi, calling the allegations against the Congress leadership “serious” and accusing the party of undermining national integrity.
Linking the issue to national security, the BJP spokesperson alleged that activist Sarjeel Imam, currently lodged in jail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), had connections with the Congress. He claimed that Imam’s past remarks on “breaking the Siliguri Corridor” echoed statements allegedly made by Muhammad Yunus.
Referring to the strategic importance of the Northeast and the Siliguri Corridor—often termed the ‘Chicken’s Neck’—Shukla said that as long as the BJP remained in power, “no force would dare to separate the seven sister states from India”. He also cited underground rail connectivity projects announced during the Union Budget as proof of the Centre’s commitment to safeguarding the region.
Shukla further alleged that the political positions of the Congress mirrored developments in Bangladesh following changes in leadership there. “Only two people have a problem with Sheikh Hasina taking shelter in India—one is Yunus, and the other is the Congress,” he claimed, referring to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
