Congress veteran, Public School Road resident Hirak Chakraborty is no more

Once a prominent name in Cachar Congress, a former commissioner in Silchar Municipality Board, Hirak Chakraborty has passed away last night. Public School Road resident Chakraborty was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment in Kolkata for the last two months.

On October 11, his wife – a teacher of Netaji School in Silchar – Shika Chakraborty had succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrest in Kolkata. On August 8, 2020, Hirak Chakraborty’s elder brother Sabyasachi Chakraborty (Bhola) had passed away.

Hirak Chakraborty was suffering from Oesophageal cancer for almost a year. Just after the lockdown was relaxed, his wife and daughter Dr. Parmita Chakraborty transferred him to Kolkata from Silchar. He was undergoing treatment at the Tata Institute of Cancer Research. His long fight with the deadly disease ended on Wednesday.

His death has come as a shock for many. An active member of the Public School Road – Dakhshin Bilpar Durga Puja Committee, Hirak Chakraborty was a renowned person and leaves behind a lot of admirers.
