Since the last few days, residents of Cachar are suffering from loadshedding problem. Despite paying hefty bills, they are made to withstand the heat wave which has dwindled their quality of life to a great extent.
Picking up the issue, Congress workers gheraoed all the divisional and sub-divisional offices of APDCL in Cachar today and closed their gates during the demonstration. While gheraoing the sub-divisional office of APDCL at Panpatty, a tense situation arose as the Police obstructed the protestors from shutting the gate leading to the arrest of 20 Congress workers.
While speaking to reporters, President of Silchar District Congress Abhijit Paul said, “Before the BJP government under Sarbananda Sonowal came to power in 2016, they promised 24-hour electricity in Assam and made it an election manifesto which was also displayed in big cutouts. After 8 years of that promise, we are not even getting electricity for 4 hours properly due to which students are unable to study and patients are suffering.”
