"Constitutional boundary should be respected by both sides" Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna

Assam and Mizoram are at loggerheads yet again. In both Karimganj and Cachar borders tension prevails. Yesterday, Mizo miscreants entered Assam’s Lailapur area in Cachar district and burnt a few houses and stalls to ashes. They claimed that those were built on Mizoram’s side of the border while locals said the area is a part of Assam’s Cachar district.

The Mizoram government has issued a statement and blamed Cachar and Karimganj district administrations for the tension in the inter-state border. Through a press statement, the government of Mizoram’s Home Department claimed that Cachar and Karimganj administrations have disrupted the supply of essential commodities in the state by installing “roadblocks”.

While the Mizoram administration, in its dialogue, was in counter-attack mode, the counterparts in Assam appealed for peace. “We are in touch with the Mizoram government and I have spoken to the chief secretary of Mizoram a few times,” said Chief Secretary of Assam, Kumar Sanjay Krishna.

He added, “We are trying to resolve it mutually. Peace should be maintained and constitutional boundaries should be respected by both sides. Through dialogue, we are in touch with all”.

Chief Secretary, Kumar Sanjay Krishna also informed that the chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Soniwal has already spoken to CM Mizoram Zoramthanga.

Meanwhile, Mizoram’s information and public relations department issued a media statement that claims ”A total of 7 Mizo civilians were injured among whom one (1) of them is being treated at Kolasib District Hospital and his condition seems stable for now.”

It is worth mentioning here that a driver was attacked by the Mizo miscreants yesterday and he has been transferred to Guwahati from Silchar Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

The chief secretaries have a virtual meeting scheduled tomorrow morning which will have officers from the Home Ministry, Government Of India. What happens in that meeting and how the two neighbouring states handle the situation remains to be seen.
