The country has come to a standstill as the Covid 19 virus continues to spread. The death toll rose to six on Sunday with more than 300 already being tested positive. Assam, so far, has managed to defend itself from the global pandemic and the administration is burning its midnight oil to ensure it takes all the necessary measures to restrict social gathering.
The deputy commissioner of Cachar, Barnali Sharma who is also the head of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has announced a new set of precautionary measures.
The order issued by DDMA states, “The outbreak of novel coronavirus is a potential threat to human life and measures are being taken by the district disaster management authority to create awareness amongst the general public and to contain the entry/spreading of the virus in the district.”
The order adds that it is necessary to take immediate preventive or mitigation steps by the concerned for containing the spread of the virus and loss of lives in the district. “Considering the gravity of the situations, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 34 of the District Disaster Management Act, 2005, I hereby direct the following,” added the letter.
The measure made compulsory by DC Cachar are:
- All business establishments and shops except essential commodities throughout Cachar district will remain closed on 6:00 a.m. of March 23, 2020, to 9:00 p.m. of March 24, 2020.
- All the malls including Goldighi Municipal Mall throughout Cachar District will remain closed with effect from March 23, 2020, until further order.
- All the weekly markets throughout cachar district will remain closed with effect from March 23, 2020, until further order.
- All fish/meat market including selling in the open market as well as in designated market throughout the Cachar district will remain closed with effect from March 23, 2020, until further order.
The DC made it clear that in case of non-compliance of the above-mentioned directions, actions will be taken as per section 51 of disaster management Act 2005.
“The order comes into force with immediate effect,” Barnali Sharma concluded.
