COVID: Three more doctors from SMCH including Dr. Arun Paul Choudhury test positive; 8 doctors in 2 days

Yesterday, Barak Bulletin broke the news that five doctors from Silchar Medical College and Hospital have tested positive for COVID 19. Worrying news coming in from the hospital.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital confirmed that three more doctors have tested positive for COVID19 today.

Senior gynaecologist from Silchar, Dr Arun Paul Choudhury tested positive and is in home isolation. Dr Jayanta Bhattacharjee and Dr Ranjana Dhar also tested positive for the virus and now they are admitted to the COVID wards of SMCH.

Earlier, Nodal Officer of SMCH for COVID, award-winning – Riturag Thakuria tested positive and took admission to SMCH’s COVID ward. Dr. Ajit Dey also took admission to SMCH after testing positive. Dr. Pradipta Roy Chowdhury, Dr. Prabhahita Barua and Dr. Abhijit Swami are in home isolation. Dr Swami is the superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. All of them are still undergoing treatment.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta informed that other doctors of SMCH will undergo RT-PCR tests tomorrow. He refused to speculate on the source of the infection at this stage.

However, if sources are to be believed, around 30 doctors attended a Doctors’ Workshop and all eight who have tested positive were present there or came in contact with those who went. Sources informed that the senior management of SMCG is now planning to collect samples from all the doctors who attended the workshop and test them on RT-PCR. Most of the samples have been tested on RAT, but the authority has recommended RT-PCR tests.
