June 2 COVID update: Spike in Hailakandi, drop in Cachar; SMCH reports all time highest discharge
Monday, 528 individuals had tested positive for COVID in Cachar, Tuesday it dropped to 402 and on Wednesday, as shared by the district health department, it was 317. For the first time since April 1, 2021, the number of cases dropped for three consecutive days despite a similar number of tests.
In Silchar Medical College and Hospital too, fewer patients got admitted and more were discharged. On Wednesday, 56 patients were discharged against 45 admissions. Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that currently, there are 307 patients under treatment at SMCH and out of them, 96 are in the ICU and 31 on ventilator. 170 patients are on oxygen support.
Dr. Gupta in his medical bulletin added that four individuals have been declared dead at SMCH in the last 24 hours ending at 5:00 pm on June 2. Nagar Tea Estate, Cachar resident 81-year-old Renubala Chanda was admitted to the hospital on May 28 and was declared dead on June 1 at 10:15 pm. Cachar district’s Gosaipur resident, 45-year-old Shafik Uddin Barbhuiya was admitted to the hospital on June 1 and he died on June 2 at 7:45 am.
Karimganj district’s Bajaricherra resident, 65-year-old Pramesh Paul was admitted to the hospital on May 31 and he breathed his last on June 1 at 1:15 am. Lala Hailakandi’s 22-year-old Rumin Akhtar Laskar was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital and she breathed her last on June 2 at 11:50 am.
Though the number of cases dropped in Cachar, there was a stiff spike in Hailkandi. From 70 on Tuesday, the number of fresh cases jumped to 110 on Wednesday. In Karimganj too the number of cases rose. From 82 on Tuesday, it rose to 85 on Wednesday but the overall number of cases dropped in Barak Valley.
