Crime accused who tested positive for COVID escapes from Silchar Civil Hospital; Police yet to trace

After Silchar Medical College & Hospital, another Corona patient has now fled from the SM Dev Civil Hospital. And it has been discovered that the fled Covid patient is a crime accused. The family members handed over the medical patient to the health department. However, the man who escaped from the Civil Hospital was not located even after about 12 hours. His family members have been contacted, but he has not been there after fleeing. According to the police sources, he was arrested on the charges of physical assault and during the medical examination after his arrest, it was discovered that he is Corona positive.

Silchar Sadar Police Station OC Ditumani Goswami said that the locals handed the accused over to the police after a scuffle broke out in the Ghungoor area on Tuesday. The Police arrested him and brought him to the Civil Hospital for a mandatory medical examination. There, he tested positive for COVID on the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and was admitted to the Civil Hospital. He was sent there around 11 pm and the next morning, news came that he had already fled. The Police are searching for him, but no trace of him has been found yet. The accused did not go home after fleeing and has kept his mobile switched off since then.

The Civil Hospital is treating about 25 Covid infected patients as of now. The Family members of those who are being treated there said, “Our family members are undergoing treatment there and there are many children and women among them. In such a scenario, the district administration has put our family members in danger by leaving such an accused in the same place.”

They have demanded that after the man is rescued, he should be kept in a place where other patients cannot come in contact with him. In addition, the protection should be such that a patient infected with the coronavirus should not able to escape from that place. The man is infected with the coronavirus, and the outsiders are not aware of this. He must be using public transport and thus, coming in contact with many people. This will increase the chances of the virus spreading to different levels of society.

However, the District Administration has not disclosed any information in this regard. When the health officials were questioned regarding this, they told the reporters that they are not aware of a Covid patient fleeing the hospital.
