Cyclone Remal Causes Chaos in Cachar: 60-Year-Old Man Swept Away by Madhura River
As Cyclone Remal continues to unleash heavy rains across the state, the situation in the Barak is rapidly deteriorating. Rising water levels in several rivers, including the Barak, have compounded the crisis. Today, a tragic incident occurred in the Gossaipur area of Cachar, where a 60-year-old man, Mazzamil Ali Laskar, went missing in the Madhura River.
The elderly man had gone to observe the rising water levels near his home when he slipped and fell into the river. Despite his son’s desperate attempts to rescue him, Mazzamil Ali Laskar was swept away by the strong currents.
Local police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were quickly notified and have since arrived at the scene. NDRF teams are actively searching the river for the missing man, though the powerful currents are making the search efforts extremely challenging.
The ongoing heavy downpour, a direct consequence of Cyclone Remal, has significantly increased the danger levels of rivers in the area, heightening the urgency of rescue operations and safety precautions for residents. It is better to avoid going close to the rivers that originate from the hills.
