Dacoits in Tarapur: Cachar Police arrests 4, recovers Rs 25,500; One dacoit tests positive for COVID19

Tarapur is considered as the heart of the town and the heart skipped a beat when armed dacoits looted a house at night. On May 20, at around 1:30 am, businessman Kutu Chanda’s house was attacked by dacoits. A resident of Khudiram Sarani, Shivbari road, Tarapur, Chanda’s family members were assaulted and the dacoits looted the wardrobes, ran away with jewelry worth Rs 10 lakh and cash around Rs 1 lakh.

Cachar Police got into action immediately. A ring was recovered from the road that connects with Chanda’s house. It was clear that the dacoits have local connections and using that as the source the Police started chasing the culprits.

Within 24 hours, Cachar Police managed to nab two culprits and were trying to trace others. Today, Officer-In-Charge of Silchar Sadar Police Station, Ditumoni Goswami informed that four individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the burglary that was executed at Kutu Chanda’s house in Tarapur.

Goswami added, “We have recovered cash worth Rs 25,000. At this stage, we are not revealing the name of the dacoits as that might hinder our investigation. It is likely that there are more involved in this and we will nab them all.”

The person from whom Rs 25,500 was recovered has tested positive for COVID19. “The condition of his health and behaviour prompted us to believe that there is something wrong. Suspecting a medical condition, we sat him in a separate car and got him tested for COVID. He has tested positive and is now undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital,” informed Goswami.

The Police has also arrested one individual in connection with the Das Colony incident. On May 20, at around 1:00 am, a fight broke between two individuals over a financial issue allegedly during gambling. One angry man attacked another man’s private parts with a broken glass bottle. In the incident, a testicle was chopped off and the man had to undergo surgery. Goswami confirmed it was a fight between two persons and the one who attacked has been arrested.
