Daring Robbery Incidents In Front of Patharkandi Police Station, Kali Temple and Shop Looted

In a shocking display of lawlessness in Karimganj, two burglaries were carried out in a single night, just 20 meters from the Patharkandi Police Station, leaving the local community in fear and raising questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement in the area.

The first incident occurred late last night (September 24), at the old Kali temple, where burglars broke in by smashing the door and looted gold ornaments and other valuable items. The thieves also wreaked havoc inside the temple, disturbing utensils and other sacred items. The proximity of the crime scene to the police station has left the public alarmed.

A devotee at the temple expressed deep concern over the incident, saying, “They broke open the lock to steal the ornaments and gold that belong to Maa Kali. They destroyed everything inside the temple. We are really tense because this burglary happened so close to the police station. Today it’s the temple, tomorrow it could be our homes. They desecrated our Maa by snatching her hair and breaking her ear for the ornaments. This will bring disaster to our society if the criminals aren’t punished.”

In another incident on the same night, a shop owned by Nazrul Islam was also targeted. The burglars broke into the shop, stealing ₹15,000 in cash along with cigarettes and cold drinks. Islam reported the incident to the police after discovering the break-in early the next morning.

“I closed my shop at 12:30 a.m. last night. When I returned today, I found the shutter broken. The robbers took ₹15,000 in cash, cigarettes, and energy drinks. I saw the police patrol party at around midnight, but I have no idea when the robbery happened after that,” Islam said.

Local residents are deeply concerned about the daring nature of these robberies, both occurring so close to the police station. While the police did respond after the incidents were reported, the swift robberies in such proximity to the police station have raised doubts about security measures in the area.

The community is now demanding more proactive law enforcement and swift action to catch those responsible for these shocking crimes.
