Daring Robbery Shakes Hailakandi Road: Businessman’s Home Raided, Lakhs in Cash and Gold Stolen

In a shocking incident, a daring robbery took place in Silchar, where a group of thieves looted four lakh rupees in cash and several lakhs worth of gold jewellery from the residence of Samiran Das, a businessman residing in Shantipur Lane on Hailakandi Road. Samiran Das, who lives with his family in a rented house and runs a business in the city, was fast asleep when the thieves struck.

The robbery occurred late at night (early morning of August 26), with the thieves breaking into the house and making off with the valuables. While everyone was asleep, the thieves entered through the closed window of the house and broke open the latch. The victims suspect that some kind of spray might have been used to keep them asleep while the robbers looted them.

In an interview, Samiran Das recounted the terrifying ordeal: “Last night, I went to bed around 1 AM, completely unaware of the danger that was to come. At around 3:30 AM, I felt someone snatching the chain from my neck, and I woke up to find my home ransacked. They took everything they could find. I only caught a glimpse of one of the thieves escaping through the window. By the time I got out of bed, he had already jumped out. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to live in Silchar. Today they took my chain; tomorrow, they might slit my throat, and I wouldn’t even know.”

“We are shocked and terrified that they took the chain from my husband while he was sleeping. We have lost faith in the administration. Every day we hear about robberies, but nothing is done to stop them. How could they break into our home and rob us without us waking up? Who knows what kind of chemical or spray they might be using? Even our dog, who always barks when someone approaches, was suspiciously silent last night”, Das’s wife said expressing her fear and disappointment.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, but the community remains on edge as residents fear for their safety. This bold theft has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of law enforcement in the city, as residents call for stronger measures to protect them from such crimes.
