DC Keerthi Jalli, Padma Shri Ravi Kannan urge citizens to take second dose

Cachar District Administration would be conducting special COVID vaccination program today, November 13, prioritising those who are yet to take the second jab. DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli, and Padma Bibhushan Dr. Ravi Kannan has urged all the people of Cachar to come forward and join the vaccination program, as vaccination is the only proven way to counter the Pandemic. 

Government of India had launched its vaccination program against COVID 19 on December 16, 2020. So far almost 1.1 Billion Indians have been inoculated with at least one dose of available COVID vaccines. In Assam, total 2,98,99,408 vaccines doses have been given as of November 13, among them only 94,76,48 have taken their second dose of vaccine.  

India’s Covid vaccination project is wrestling with a new challenge. About 10.4 crore (104 Million) people, more than a tenth of those who have taken the first shot, have skipped their appointment with the second dose, according to the Government estimates. Indian states now have 120 million doses unutilized vaccine is available with the states. a

According to a release issued on October end by Health Ministry, the “Har Ghar Dastak” (Knock Every Door) campaign is scheduled to start soon in districts with low vaccination rates to enthuse and motivate people towards getting their jab.

“Government is providing two doses of vaccine to everyone above 18 in free of cost. In Cachar, almost 1.1 million have been given the COVID vaccine, among them only 4 lakhs have taken their full course of vaccination,” informed Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar.

“Many people are showing hesitancy owing to some wrong perceptions and beliefs. But this has been proven scientifically that vaccines are fully safe, even pregnant and lactating mother can take the vaccine. Aftereffects of vaccination might be mild fever and some bowel problem at maximum, ” Deputy Commissioner added.

Renowned Oncologist, Dr. Ravi Kannan, who is recently conferred with the Padma Bibhushan, also urged the people of Cachar to come forward to join vaccination drives. “Vaccination can lower the intensity of Infection, and it can save lives,” Dr. Kannan said.
