
DC Laya Madduri holds interactive session to promote swachhta initiative
A day after distributing dustbins to the residents, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri, together with officials held an interactive session with residents of ward number 24.
Addressing the residents, Deputy Commissioner, speaking in Bengali said that collection of segregated solid resource have started on a good note. She praised the ward commissioner Madhumita Sharma for coming forward to implement the pilot project in her ward. She shared how total support from the people can help make the initiative successful.
The DC further mentioned that all those who are not interested in taking the dustbins for free and paying user charges of 3 RS per day for the service of collecting garbage from door step twice a day may have to pay fine of 100 RS per per day for littering the roads and drains as per Solid Waste Management rules.
She sought cooperation from the residents and said that the activities from Ward 24 shall inspire others to follow the procedures in achieving the mission to make Silchar Swaccha and Sundor. Before delivering her speech Deputy commissioner Laya Madduri, was felicitated by Madhumita Sharma, ward commissioner of 24.
Sharma also delivered her speech urging residents to cooperate with the SRLM system. Later on C.Srinivasan, waste management system expert gave a presentation through slideshow and explained the difference between earlier collection system of mixed waste and present system of collecting the material from household before it converts into stinking garbage and use them as resource for employment generation.
People expressed willingness to own up this initiative and contribute to success of Swachh Sundor Silchar after understanding the difference and hazards of littering garbage on the roads and drains. Assistant commissioner Abhilash Barnwal, Assistant Commissioner Maria Tanim, Extra Commissioner Navanita Hazarika and Ward commissioner of ward number 24 Madhumita Sharma were also present in the meeting.
