DC Laya Madduri unveils Beti Bachao Beti Padhao mascot; announces #SilcharKiBeti contest
Ahead of the grand launching of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme, Cachar District Administration has taken up some series of pre-launch events to mark the launch of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) in the district. In this regard, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri on Saturday unveiled ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ mascot at her conference hall.
Briefing media-persons, she said, “We are going to launch a contest #Silcharkibeti, a contest which will run on Facebook. There are two ways of participating in the contest. One can post a selfie with their daughters and mention three reasons why they are proud of their daughters or post a video clip mentioning three reasons why you are proud of your daughters. During the video, either daughters should be present or photo be clicked with them along with the hashtag ‘#silcharkibeti’. Top 3 best posts will be awarded cash prizes worth Rs.5000, Rs.3000 and Rs.2000 during the launch ceremony.
Laya Madduri continued, “DC card will be provided to families with only daughters. CDPOs, AWWs, and AWCs will identify such families. These families would be given a DC card and they will be served on priority basis in all government offices, private service providers like banks, gas agencies, telecom companies etc. aiming to establish the feeling of pride in parents of girl children. During this intervening period, every girl child born in rural government delivery point including hospitals run in tea gardens in PPP mode will be celebrated. Doctors will be encouraged to post photographs on social media with the #sukher – agoman.”
In addition to it, 5 private and 5 government schools will be selected for making street plays. Each school will be allocated to different area of Silchar, where they have to showcase street plays. They will post the details on social media with specific hashtags. The campaign that creates the maximum buzz on social media will be awarded cash prizes worth Rs.5000, Rs.4000 and Rs.3000. The rest of the schools will be awarded Rs.1000 each as tokens of appreciation. Village Level Child Protection Committees will be formed in every village, accountable for child protection, reporting and reducing dropouts, identifying vulnerable households, reporting incidents of trafficking etc. ‘Ghar ki pehchan Beti’ – Board outside Homes bearing name of the daughter. GPs would be felicitated once the entire village adopted it. “We will conduct meeting with PRI members to create awareness about Girl Child Education and Protection Issues,” Laya Madduri added to say.

Government of India has introduced the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme for survival, protection and education of the girl child. It aims to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) through a mass campaign across the country targeted at changing societal mindsets and creating awareness about the criticality of the issue.
