DC Mridul Yadav Assures Fair and Peaceful Panchayat Election in Cachar, Expects Huge Voter Turnout

Polling officials have already reached their designated booths in far-flung areas of the district, as preparations for tomorrow’s polling gather pace. Cachar, where the panchayat election is scheduled in the first phase, is fully prepared, informed District Magistrate Mridul Yadav on Thursday (May 1). This will be the first panchayat election after the recent delimitation exercise in 2024.

District Commissioner Mridul Yadav stated that 1,706 polling stations have been set up across the district. Around 8,000 polling staff and over 4,000 police personnel will be on duty on Friday (May 2) to ensure smooth and peaceful voting.

He further informed that all arrangements have been made to transport election staff to their assigned locations. Vehicles and support systems are in place to ensure timely deployment of teams.

The DC warned that violence or anti-social activities of any kind will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken to maintain law and order. The administration is working to ensure a safe and fair election.

Despite the rising temperature, the district is fully prepared, and people are expected to participate actively in this important democratic exercise at the grassroots level.

Due to the fresh demarcation of wards and panchayat areas following the delimitation, critical, sensitive or vulnerable zones have not been formally notified. However, the district administration has identified a few critical zones in the bordering areas where security measures have been strengthened.

“There is one constable and one home guard with each polling party, and we have identified a few areas based on suggestions from the sector officers and accordingly strengthened security in those areas. Naka checking, deployment of magistrates, road marches, and other security arrangements are also in place,” the DC added.
