DDMA bulldozed more than 100 structures in Janiganj and nearby areas

An eviction drive was carried out by Cachar district administration in south Assam’s Silchar town on Friday.

Shamim Laskar, district project officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said more than 100 structures including commercial establishments were bulldozed at Janiganj and nearby areas.

A joint body from the administration had a visit to Fatakbazar and neighbouring areas on September 9 and a notice regarding the eviction drive was issued on the same day, he said.

Necessary steps regarding encroachments causing troubles of any kind will be taken in the future too, he added.

A meeting was held at the deputy commissioner’s office here in this regard on September 20 during which the blueprint of the drive was chalked out, he said.
