Dead body hanging on a bridge in Meherpur, Silchar; Mother alleges "suicide over love affair"

A hanging dead body of a youth has created tension in the Panchgori village of Meherpur in Cachar. While some villagers were out for a morning walk, they saw the body of this youth hanging from the cantilever of a bridge.

The locals of the village later identified him and his family was informed. Later after police intervention, the dead body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. It is still a mystery whether it was a suicide or a murder.

According to the available information, Ahamdul Hussain, a 25-year-old was a resident of the Panchgori Village in Meherpur. He was at his home last night, but today morning when his mother couldn’t find him in his room, she asked people if they saw him. In the meantime, the locals who were out for a morning walk saw the hanging dead body of Hussain. Later, they went to inform his mother about this and rushed her to the spot.

The grieving mother alleged that it was a love affair and said, “Last night he was okay, we had dinner together and then he went to sleep in his room. Today morning, I woke at 4 AM and I saw him missing from his room”.

She further said, “I am not sure what happened, but probably the girl (Hussain’s alleged love interest) might have said something to him, which triggered him to take this step. Last Monday, while I was at work, Ali (Hussain’s friend and local from the same village) called me and asked where my son was. I replied that he was at home and couldn’t go to work as he was ill. Ali asked me to rush home as he got a call from the girl saying he was trying to commit suicide. I rushed home to find him locked in his room but when I banged on the door he opened the door but didn’t share anything with me”.

After the locals informed the police, the lifeless body was brought down from the bridge and sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Police are investigating the matter as the reason behind the death remains unknown. This incident has created tension and unrest among the locals of the village.
